Nissan rescued a point in injury time after trailing 2-0 after 20 minutes to lowly Ashington. The Colliers had come with a gameplan that looked likely to deliver all 3 points until Gavin Cogdon struck a twenty yard drive into the bottom right corner of the net.

Ashington had gone two up with a double salvo in the opening quarter with Robbie Cockburn and Ross Atkinson scoring with tidy finishes. The men from Portland Park looked comfortable until the stroke of half time when a fine Nissan move was finished off by David Wells with a left foot rocket into the bottom corner.

A verbal rocket was handed out by manager Wilf Constantine at half time and Nissan stepped up a gear or two in the second period. A re-shuffle enabled Ben Ryan to push forward and he relished the new role, using it to devastating effect. His pace and delivery were another sign that he is on the way back to full fitness. Steve Walklate and John Cullen imposed themselves on the game and it was only a matter of time that Nissan would equalise after Ashington skipper Hutchinson was red carded for a second yellow. Cogdon saved the day with a fine goal in the 92nd minute.
