With Whitley Bay playing in the FA Vase Nissan missed out on the chance to go second in the league with a woeful display against Shildon. The 3 - 0 scoreline flattered Nissan as it could have been 5 or 6 - 0 but for superb saves from Paul Newton. The first 25 minutes were fairly even with both keepers never troubled as both sets of forwards were reduced to long range efforts that flew high or wide. A serious injury to Neil Tarrant, (suspected Dislocated knee cap) introduce David Tait up front to partner Gavin Cogdon. Shildon, who were playing the long ball to great effect scored just before half time when Tyson Masters ran onto a long ball and lobbed the advancing keeper. The second half saw Shildon pile on the pressure. This was by far their best performance this season and they tore into a below par Nissan defence. When Captain Justin Keegan was dispossessed on the half way line, the ball was fired into the box where Stuart Niven was on hand to fire home. Paul Newton performed heroics to keep the score down making 3 brilliant saves before being beaten late on by Wayne Gredziak.

""You can handle one or two players playing below par but not 8 or 9, this was our worst performance of the season and we deserved to be beaten by a Shildon team who wanted it more than we did", said Wilf Constantine after the match."
