Newton, A Stephenson, Stewart, P Stephenson, L Ryan, Keegan, Radigan, Walklate, Tait,(Robinson), Cogdon, Hodgson, (Scott).
Richard Hodgson came through a late fitness test and was declared fit, as was Leon Ryan and David Tait who sustained injuries during the Seaham Red Star encounter last week.
Washington, struggling at the wrong end of the table and needing at least 3 wins to have a chance of avoiding the drop, fielded a mixture of youth and experience.
During the early exchanges Sunderland Nissan were guilty of squandering opportunities to take the lead, Cogdon sent clear of the Washington defence could only watch as his shot went narrowly wide, Andy stephenson wasted a chance blazing over from 10 yards out.
The weather took a turn for the worse with a heavy hailstorm and during this period Washington regained their composure and only a timely challenge from P Stephenson denied Sheardown from six yards, a minute later and a shot from Cassillis Stephenson was saved by Newton.
With the game drifting towards half time Cogdon went on a mazy run, rounding the keeper before squaring the ball for Tait to tap home on 44 minutes.
The second half saw little to impress with both teams unable to find their finishing touch. very little to write home about in a dreary end of season second half. To their credit Washington defended well to deny Nissan any real goalscoring chances.

"A dour display with only Radigan and Paul Stephenson playing anywhere near their potential.
We continue too build slowly from the back and this allows opposition defences time to regroup.
We always look threating when we move the ball quickly from Defence through midfield to our forwards but we did not do that enough today. "
