Wilffe lays down the gauntlet to the chasing pack

Sunderland Nissan manager Wilf Constantine laid down the gauntlet to the chasing pack when they extended their lead at the top of the table to five points with a 3-1 win at Durham City on Saturday.

Nissan have won five of their last six matches to become the surprise package of the season so far, and Constantine said: "It was a fantastic result to win at Durham, and it shows that we're genuine title contenders.

"The players are very determined, and never stopped running. We had several players missing, but the others responded very well. They came of age in footballing terms on Saturday, and I believe now that we can stay at the top."

Durham took the lead after five minutes with a Tommy English penalty following a foul by Gary Pearson, but Nissan levelled from another spot kick just before half time, when Gavin Cogdon was fouled, and he scored from the spot.

Nissan went 2-1 up after 71 minutes when Cogdon's shot was blocked, and Andy Reay scored from the rebound, and they got a third when Jon Cullen and Neil Maddison set up Cogdon to beat Durham keeper James Winter from ten yards.

Only Nissan out of Saturday morning's top nine won

Northern League Review

In the Arngrove Northern League top flight, Sunderland Nissan maintained their five points lead over Billingham Town with a romp at Darlington RA. Although Michael Carter quickly cancelled out Jon Cullen's goal, there was no stopping the Wearsiders, who scored with strikes from Gavin Cogden (2), Stephen Holliday and Chris Veasey.

Billingham Town just edged West Allotment Celtic. After establishing a two-goals cushion through Jamie McKie and Steve Flockett, the Teessiders were put on the back foot with a late goal from Scott MacDonald but the home team failed to level.

Stephen Buzzeo, Paul Hogg, Graeme Armstrong and Adam Scope all scored in Dunston Federation's 4-0 defeat of Jarrow Roofing. At the bottom Bedlington Terriers are now just a point adrift after sharing in a 3-3 draw at Horden CW.

Sam Kitching, Michael Dickinson and James Harmison were the visitors' scorers with Nicholas Martin (2) and Mark Stephenson, who scored the equaliser in stoppage time, finding the net for the home team.

Seaham Red Star reduced Spennymoor Town's lead at the top of the Second Division to a couple of points when they strolled to a 4-0 victory over Alnwick Town. Paul Taylor scored two with Michael Savage and Paul Stout adding their names to the scoresheet.

Washington remain fourth, a point behind South Shields, after a goalless draw with Marske United but Hebburn Town missed the opportunity to go sixth when they lost 3-1 at Norton and Stockton Ancients, whose marksmen were Tyson Masters (2) and Nathan Mulligan. Hebburn's only goal was credited to Norton defender Martin Thompson.

Richard Kent and Michael Cunningham struck for Prudhoe Town with Mark Campbell and Stephen Walker replying for Ryton. Former Prudhoe striker Andrew Bulford missed a penalty for Ryton.

Whickham extended their winning run, defeating North Shields 4-1 with strikes from Ian Robson (2), Andrew Elliott and an own goal while bottom-of-the-table Sunderland RCA completed an unlikely double overcoming sixth-placed Guisborough Town 4-2 - courtesy of John Butler (2), Simon Andrews and Anthony Laidler.

English looking for better fortunes against Chester-Le-Street return

Club secretary Harry English hopes Nissan FC can avenge their opening day home defeat at the hands of todays opponents Chester-Le-Street. Many would have tought after that defeat that the club could have faced a difficult season in the bottom half of the table but not Harry English. English statest that it was one of those freak results were they scored from a defensive error and Nissan bombarded their goal creating numerous chances but it didnt go our way. Nissan FC manager Willfe Constantine's comments after the game were "I feel like we have been mugged today". English is hoping for a similar performance today but with a bit of luck in front of goal and obviously a different result.

Gaffer explains orange peel analargy confusion

There has been some media confusion about manager Willfe Constantine statement that a recent fixture was a potential orange peel. Manager Constantine has explained the reasoning behind the statement stating that "I use the potential orange peel analargy to get the message across to the players that they must treat every game like a cup final no matter if we are playing a top side, or a team 2 divisions below us in a cup game. I expect the same effort, commitment and concentration for every fixture that Nissan FC plays in. Most people are more familiar with a game being labelled a potential banana skin but i think the orangle peel analargy sends a stronger message to the players. A potential banana skin is an upset but a potential orange peel is an even bigger upset than a potential banana skin"

Reay happier with clean sheet

Andy Reay is known for making last ditch tackles and organising his fellow defenders in his own penalty area. Lately Andy has proved as effective in the opposition's penalty area with some important goals in particular the winner at Gateshead in the DCC and recently in the 3-1 away win at Durham. Reay in response to this states that "Its nice to get my name on the score sheet now and again but nothing makes me more happy than the satisifaction of keeping a clean sheet". Reay normally a central defender has settled in at right full back and the gaffer had this to say "Andy is an old fashioned defender who will stop at nothing to keep the ball out of the net. He has a great attitude and is a role model for the younger players in the team".

Keegan wants skipper role back!

Central defender Justing Keegan has told manager Willfe Constantine "I want the arm band back". Keegan lost the armband some weeks back after he missed an important fixture while attending an 18-30s Magaluf reunion night. Stephen Walklate has taken over the skippers role since and Nissans 6 game winning streak has seen Willfe not wanting to change things. This unrest coincides with fans favourite Johnny Butler showing his dissapproval after being substituted for the fourth game in a row.

Willfe has a big job on controlling the players with big egos in the team and will find it hard not to succome to player power.

The Ryan Report Chapter 1 - Pressure point

Welcome to the first installment of my new column, The Ryan Report. I was delighted when the website editor appraoched me and asked if I would write a weekly column. However I must point out that reports of a three figure sum have been greatly exaggerated. The deal is more focused around my image rights than a financial gain.

Our point against Billingham Town keeps us 8 points clear going into Christmas. It's a position that everyone would have taken before the start of the season and it's the perfect platform for a very difficult January.
The game itself was a real battle, not helped by some very leniant refereeing in the first twenty minutes. On at least three occasions, rash tackles went unpunished....and a barbaric lunge from behind on Maddison didn't even warrant a free kick in the ref's eyes. Maddison was forced off after twenty minutes and altered our shape. I don't think we recovered until half time. Town battered us. They played some good stuff but the most disappointing aspect was that they wanted it more. They had far more hunger and picked up all the second balls. We didn't compete with them and in all fairness, we could and should have been two down at half time. After Butler's neat finish in the bottom corner of his own net, Town were awarded a disputed corner. It was swung in and headed about a yard over the line...only for the linesman and referee to decide it hadn't. So in we went for our half time lucky to be only one down. At half time the gaffer asked for something to get us going...a shot, a tackle or a header...anything! Within five minutes of the second half I seized the oppurtunity and went flying into a tackle like the robust midfield machine that I'm not, and picked up a yellow card. But it galvanised the boys and in the next ten minutes we were first to everything, winning headers and tackles all over the park. Town didn't know what had hit them and when Keegan rose like a salmon at the back stick, Reay was left with the simple task of bundling home for the equaliser. We possibly should have gone on to win with the in-effectual Cullen and young Clough going close but we will take the point.
Our next game is on Boxing day away to Jarrow Roofing. It's a game we need to win to keep the pressure on the teams below us. We must target six points from our next 2 games because we face some very difficult fixtures in January.

One thing worth pointing out about yesterday's result is that we were without Halliday, Riches, Pearson, Capper, Tait and Farrell. It shows that we have strength in depth. Everyone in the squad will be used over the coming months and it's vital that we all stick together. I would imagine that Wilf may look to bring in one or two new faces in the coming weeks to further strengthen and that's a good thing. Competion all over the park can only benefit us.

TRIVIA TIME:
Only one player has played in the Manchester, North London, Merseyside and North East derbies. Name him?.

This week's lookalike is Stephen Stewart and C-3PO from Star Wars.
Gaffer not worried about Lord Stephens findings

Manager Willfe Constantine has stated that he has nothing to worry about following Lord Stephens report into corruption and bungs in football. Lord Stephens report stated that their were several deals which needed more investigation and his gut feeling was that there was illegal payments made. There may be several of the gaffers deals under scrutuny and one deal in particular was the signing of Stephen Stewart from Durham City last season. Constantine states "That money was only resting in my account before it was moved on, i have done nothing wrong. My relationship with media is frosty to say the least and they are out to get me. I have the backing of chairman Harry English and the board, hopefully the further investigations will see me clear my name. This report is a waste of tax payers money, there are more important things in life like global warming and world peace".

Star in bar bust up with chairman

Wideboy Ben Ryans Nissan future is in doubt after he clashed with chairman Harry English in a bar on Christmas Eve. Ryan was out with team-mates Johnny Butler and Stephen Capper for a quiet drink to discuss the previous day's clash with Billingham Town when chairman English waded over uninvited and levelled accusations of unproffesionalism at his three players. He reminded them of the clubs 48 hour alcohol ban before a game. Butler and Capper swiftly moved to the bar and exchanged their lagers for lemonade but Ryan was in no mood to heed English's warning. An onlooker said "Ryan kept on swigging his red wine like it was pop....he told his chairman that Nissan hadnt just signed Ben Ryan the player, but that they had taken on Ben Ryan the brand, and that didnt go down well. After a heated argument, the winger left the bar without his team-mates".

Nissan win boxing day derby clash

Nissan FC beat local rivals Jarrow Roofing 5-1 today away from home. Stephen Capper opened the scoring before the break and a Cogden finished 10 mins into the 2nd half saw the game over as a contest. Johnny Butler got 2 goals and Andrew Stephenson scored a long range effort to see Nissan go 5 up. Jarrow scored a consolation at the death but it was a comfortable win for the league leaders.

Lundy issues come and get me plea

There are strong rumours that ex-Nissan midfielder Anthony Lund is to rejoin Nissan from Durham City. There were a few eyebrows raised when Lund left Nissan at the start of the season as he reached double figures in terms of goals last season. It was thought he would be an important part of Willfes plan to challenge for the title this season but the player moved on to what he thought would be a stronger outfit. The gaffer was extremely dissapointed Lund chose to leave the club but may offer the Hartlepool native a second chance as injuries to Paul Milner and Stephen Stewart mean cover on the left flank is a bit bare. Lund has just recently completed a ban and is thought to be surplus to requirements at the Archibold stadium under new manager Dickie Ord.

Bedlington match preview

It is bottom versus top when Bedlington Terriers host Sunderland Nissan in the First Division of the Arngrove Northern League at Welfare Park - but the Wearsiders' manager Wilf Constantine insists his side will take nothing for granted.

He said: "We are on a good run and are eight points ahead, but if you need any reminding of how the form book can sometimes be turned on its head you only have to look at the Boxing Day Second Division result when basement side Sunderland RCA defeated table-topping South Shields.

"I will remind my side of that result before they go out tomorrow but I will be surprised if we do not take something from the game."

Although Gary Pearson misses out with a hamstring injury, Constantine has an otherwise clean bill of health.

He will include Alan Hoey-Yugger, who made an excellent debut in the Boxing Day victory at Jarrow Roofing.

Constantine added: "He looks very good.

"I signed him from local football in the Hartlepool area and he will definitely play some part in tomorrow's match."

Nissan FC beat Bedlington Terriers 2-0 at the welfare ground today. The pitch was bearly playable and Bedlington shaded the first half with both sides creating chances. The 2nd half saw Nissan up the pace and 2 excellent goals from Gavin Cogden saw Nissan to victory despite a spirited fightback from the terriers in the dying moments.

The Ryan Report Chapter 2 - Points in the bag

I would like to point out that the views expressed in this column are not the views of Nissan FC. I would also like to point out that the Ryan Report is 100% tongue-in-cheek and is in no way meant to be taken as big time or serious. The column is simply a bit of craic....nothing more and nothing less.

Now thats out of the way, welcome to the last Ryan Report of 2006. Two tricky away games have seen us go to Jarrow Roofing and Bedlington Terriers over the festive period and pick up maximum points. Both games were tough, especially todays 2-0 win at Bedlington. The pitch was treacherous to say the least, but the Terriers came flying at us and could have easily went ahead during a first half that they dominated. But we stood firm and two goals from Gavin Cogdon (the second being a goal of genuine class) saw us home. Credit must go to the back four, who once again were tremendous. Reay, Keegan, Stephenson and Capper have been brilliant in the weeks since I have been at the club. Our nearest rivals at the top, Bilingham Town continue to keep up their good form and it is beginning to look like a two horse race. But with a difficult month ahead, with games against the impressive Benfield, Blue Star and Consett we are very much taking it one game at a time. Nobody is getting carried away at Nissan. We all know that there is a long way to go and that anything can happen in the next few months.

A quick word on Bedlington. I really hope they get out of trouble. They have some good players there and great lads to boot. People like John Milner, Mel Harmison, Sam Kitchen are honest, genuine lads and if their performance today was anything to go by, they should win more games than they lose in the next few months.

In next weeks column (as a promise to Jason Ainsley) I will name the top 5 players that I have played with in the last ten years. Will Jason force his way into the top 5? I can tell you now that the answer is definately yes, but ill keep you guessing to see if he has made it to the top spot.

TRIVIA TIME

Muckles set to leave

Nissan FC have reluctantly accepted Neil Muckles request to leave the club. Muckles signed in late November from Hartlepool United had made several substitute appearances and started the recent league cup win over Billingham Synthonia. The gaffer has found it difficult to give Neil more first team football as the back four have been solid all season and oppurtunities to impress were limited. Manager Willfe Constantine had hoped Muckles would stay as he adds real competition for places but understands Neils need for first team football. Its no suprise to anyone at Nissan FC that several first division clubs are looking to bring Neil on board as his quality and commitment are never in doubht. Nissan FC would like to wish Neil the best of luck in his future career.

Taity gives gaffer new year boost

David Tait has exclusively told www.nissanfc.co.uk he is looking to make his return within the next two weeks. Tait suffered a hamstring injury in November during the 5-0 demolition of title favourites Consett. Tait was then joint top scorer in the northern league with 16 league goals and had 23 in all competitions, a rate of more than 1 goal every game he played. There was interest from several clubs before Taits injury but he rebuffed all approaches to try and win some silverware with Nissan this season. There was cause for concern when Tait suffered his injury as many wondered were the goals would come from but Gavin Cogden has lead from the front scoring 15 league goals in his absense. The gaffer will not rush Taity back as he has had hamstring problems before and getting him back 100% fit is vital to the teams success. The gaffer said the prospect of Taity returning to partner Gavin Cogden in attack was mouth watering and bad news for opposition.

Nissan FC first silverware of the season

No nonsense central defender Paul Stephenson(pictured below as a punk rocker) has delivered Nissan FC's first silverware of the season by winning a local fancy dress competition in his home town of Easington during the festive period. Its the biggest achievement by the club for some while since Justin Keegan beat the Hendon hardman in an arm wrestling competition in Luma early last year. The gaffer had this to say "Paul is supposed to be the hardman of the team and this type of thing sends the wrong message to the opposition. Paul should be concentrating on his game not dressing up and putting make up on". It is thought that Stephenson will face the wrath of manager Willfe Constantine and be made an example of by the clubs strict discipline policy before the game away to Benfield on Saturday.

Gaffer faces selection Headache - Benfield Match Preview

Manager Willfe Constantine has given his thoughts ahead of tomorrows crunch game away to Paul Bakers Benfield. "Every game is a massive game now and tomorrow is no different. Benfield are going strong in the FA Vase but still have an outside chance of catching us so we must be fully prepared for a tough game. There is always the Tyneside/Wearside rivalry which adds a bit of spice to this fixture and Paul Baker will be looking for revenge as we beat them 2-0 at home earlier in the season. The chasing pack will see this as a game we could drop points so its important the players are fully focused. Alan Hoey is injured but i have David Tait and Neil Maddisson returning from injury, i face what us managers call a nice problem tomorrow as i have to leave out some top players who have performed very well for us this season. Ive told the players that whoever is in possesion of the shirt will keep it and reputation means very little to me, your only as good as your last game. Team spirit has been excellent this season and the squad players when called upon have never let anyone down. I am always looking to bring in new faces to freshen things up but lately im spending more time telling other managers that my players are staying put, shows how far we have come"

The Ryan Report Chapter 3 - Benfield disappointment

A very poor performance cost us all three points against Benfield Bay Plastics. We were sloppy in possession and second to every loose ball. One or two poor decisions from the referee may have counted against us, but make no mistake, we deserved to lose the game. It's easy to see why Benfield are not everybody's cup of tea. They carry an air of arrogance about them and seem to rate themselves highly. But to be honest, it's not a bad quality to have. They are a well organised side and always in the opposition's face. More than anything though, they are extremely hard working and thoroughly battered us from start to finish. Fair play to them...so they may be chirpy and over physical, but they do it well and I hope they go far in the FA Vase.

As promised last week, the top 5 players that i've been lucky enough to have played alongside in the last ten years of playing non league football. I'll go in reverse order so as to build up the suspense.

5. Colin Wake (Chester le Street)
Colin is in there simply because I never saw him have a bad game. Steady away doesn't do him justice. He has played more times for the club than anyone else and is proof that loyalty still exists in the Northern League.

4. Sam Kitchen (Gateshead, Bishop Auckland, Durham City, Bedlington Terriers)
Best defender I've ever played with. Now in the twilight of his career, but back when I was at Gateshead ten years ago, Sam was awesome. Strong, physical and fairly quick for a centre half. Also a great leader on the pitch.

3. John Cullen (Morpeth Town, Spennymoor United, Ncle Blue Star, Nissan)
The only current team mate to make the elite!! Cull has been a great player over the years. His vision and awareness are superb and just the other week I actually saw him tackle. Now assistant at Nissan, he is looking to make his mark in management in the next few years.

2. Jason Ainsley (Too many clubs to mention)
Jason is THE big name in north east football these days. And righlty so. His achievements over the years speak for themselves. He has played for every big club in the region and his performances for Spennymoor in particular down the years have earned him legendary status. Probably the best captain I've ever played under...certainly the most influential and one of the nicest lads you will ever meet.

1. Paul Proudlock (Gateshead, Bishop Auckland, Peterlee, Horden)
Proudy was special. I probably caught his last couple of years in his prime whilst I was at Gateshead with him and he was the one player we looked to when we needed something to rescue us. He always delivered. Always most dangerous when he played just off the front man, he had the best first touch I've ever seen and could create openings out of nothing. Awesome in a dressing room as well...probably the funniest man I've ever known. I remember my first ever training session at the club. Proudy came over and introduced himself 'Hi....I'm Paul Proudlock...best player at the club'. It took me just two minutes of keep ball to realise he was being serious.

TRIVIA TIME
Name the only league club in England whose name starts with 5 constenants.

Nissan 11 match unbeaten run ended at Benfield

Nissan FC lost 3-1 away to Benfield Bay Plastics yesterday. Benfield started brightly and some defensive errors gave the home side an early 2 goal lead. Nisan came back into the game and created some good chances only for Benfield to increase their lead on the counter. Returning top scorer David Tait came of the bench and scored a great headed goal but bad news was to follow as he suffered a reaccurance of his hamstring injury. Nissan created some good chances and some excellent saves at vital times by the home keeper meant Nissans 11 game unbeaten run was ended.

Maddison relishes Filtrona Return

Nissan FCs Durham County Challenge Cup quarter final tie with South Shields takes frontman Neil Maddison back to his first club in senior football. The tie (at Filtrona Park, Tuesday 7.30pm kick off) is expected to attract a large crowd as both sides are going well in their respective divisions.

Maddison spent one season there before landing a big money move to Chester le-Street FC and admits that he is going back with mixed emotions. "Obviously its a big game. Both sides will want to progress to the semi finals, but for me personally I would love to go back to Shields and put in a performance. The fans were always good to me when I was there but Im not sure how they will react to me tomorrow night. You always hope for a good reception, but fans can be fickle so we will wait and see."

After Saturdays defeat to Benfield, Nissan aim to get their season immediately back on track. "We were poor on Saturday and we are the only ones who can put it right. And thats the aim for tomorrow night. We are focused on getting the right result for the fans and for the manager".

Nissan dumped out of Durham County Cup

Nissan FC were beaten 5-2 away from home by South Shields in the Durham County Cup quarter finals last night. Nissan were made to pay for their missed chances by some counter attack football from the home side. Chris Feasy scored in normal time to make it 1-0 but Shields equalised soon after. Andy Reay put Nissan 2-1 in front in extra time only for Shields to hit back through a dubious penalty. Shields took the lead at the end of the 1st half of extra time and scored 2 late goals as Nissan threw everything forward desperate for an equaliser.

Beckham for Nissan switch?

Rumours are circulating the football world that ex England captain David Beckham could be Nissan bound. News that Beckham's Real Madrid contract will not be renewed has alerted Nissan boss Wilf Constantine, who is on the lookout for a signing to add to his squad, who may be low on confidence following two succesive defeats this week. It is believed that chairman Harry English and his board have discussed the possibilities of luring Beckham to the club and have set up a financial package that could allow the midfielder to retain the vast majority of any revenue that the club receives through extra shirt sales. When approached on the subject, English said 'It is true that we are looking to bring Beckham on board. We believe that he would raise the whole profile of the club and would allow us to corner the asian market. He would give us a boost similar to that of John Cullen's signing two years ago.'

Beckham hopes gone!

Nissan FC were today coming to terms with the news that Real Madrid star David Beckham has snubbed them in favour of a lucrative deal with MLS franchise L.A Galaxy. It was reported earlier in the week that the club's board had been in negotiaitions with the megastar about a possible deal that would have seen him arrive at The Car Plant. Manager Wilf Constantine was philosophical about the news when he spoke to www.nissanfc.co.uk earlier today. "You win some, you lose some. Obviously it would have been nice for David to have chose us, but he has thought long and hard and has decided that cash is his main motivator in life. We offered him the chance to return to England and to play under the watchful eye of Steve McLaren but he has opted for Hollywood. His loss. It is thought that Constantine is keen to recruit a top class acquisition to boost the squad for the second half of the season.

The Ryan Report Chapter 4 - Hurricane Hooray!

A much needed win today in tornado-like conditions against as strong Blue Star outfit. Questions are still being asked as to how this game went ahead in such gale force winds. But we'll take the three points. In one respect, I think the wind helped to take our minds of our previous two defeats and got us to focus on doing individual jobs to combat the weather. We probably coped slightly better going against the wind than Blue Star and because of that I think we deserved the win.

A quick word on our unsung hero. Steve Walklate has been immense since I came to the club. Week in week out he gives the same high level of performance despite being asked to play in a different position almost every other game. He never complains and just gets on with his game. His workrate and attitude have been spot on and he is a major part of the team. Its lads like Walks that you need if you are going to compete at the top end of the table.

One final comment on today's game. It concerns a rather unfortunate incident that took place in the 2nd minute. As a goal kick was launched downfield, I got into position to challenge one of my good friends, Ian Dixon for the ball. What happened next is one of the most sickening, cowardly, brutal and frankly barbaric acts I have ever been involved in. Dixon launches a flying forearm smash into the side of my head, thus giving me a black eye and ruining any chances of doing the modelling work I had lined up this week. There are words to describe people like Ian Dixon....but this is a family show so I'll keep them to myself.

Johnny Butler hands in shock transfer request

Johnny Butler has handed in a shock transfer request today. Butler has been an ever present all season and has operated on the right hand side either in midfield or full back. He helped the club to an 8 point lead but two recent defeats saw the manager axe Butler for yesterdays home game to Blue Star making him look the scapegoat. If a transfer agreement cannot be made then a loan deal looks likely. Butler had this to say "I am 27 years old now and feel fit and strong. Im not prepared to sit on the bench as cover and collect my wages. Ive been an ever present all season and despite the two recent defeats one of which was in the cup thought my form had been good. Normally as a player you can tell you are going to be axed normally by having a few bad performances in previous games, this was not the case. Players expect to be told before hand why they are being axed and what they have to do to get back into the team, not left wondering. I will make myself available for games and give my normal 100% commitment until something can be sorted out. If a transfer agreement can not be reached then i would like to go out on loan and help someone else, i dont want to go stale."

Nissan bounce back with hard fought victory

Nissan FC won a close game 1-0 at the Nissan Sports Complex aginst last years champions Newcastle Blue Star. An own goal from Stars Kevin Dixon in the 1st minute was the difference between the sides. New signings Anthony Lund and Chris Scott made their debuts for the club after signing during the week. Nissan increase their lead to 8 points as Billingham Town's game away to Jarrow Roofing was abandoned after 60 minutes with Town loosing 4-2 at the time because of floodlight failure.

Constan-Time for a change?

Reports are rife that Nissan FC could be ready to axe manager Wilf Constantine if he fails to land any silverware this season. Rumours are circulating in West London that none other than Jose Mourinho is being lined up as his replacement. Mourinho has become unsettled at Chelsea and is said to have met Nissan officials in a Travel Lodge near Stansted airport.

Nobody at Nissan FC was available for comment this afternoon, but it has become clear in recent weeks that the board of directors have decided that a trophy-less season this year would be classed as a failure. The word is that they would be prepared to face the backlash of both players and supporters by replacing the popular Constantine with someone who they believe can guarantee success.

Mourinho's agent has added fuel to the fire by announcing that his client was in negotiations with an un-named club about a new challenge next season. It is also well known that Mourinho is a huge fan of the new micra and could be tempted with an offer of a club car.

Nissan join Racism drive

Nissan FC have become the latest club to back the 'Kick it Out' promotion, aimed at ridding racism from the game. Club captain Justin Keegan was at the club's launch today and told a gathering from the world's press just how the general public can help.

'I think it's vitally important that racism is removed not just from the game, but society as a whole. It's a serious issue that needs tackling by everybody. Every morning i'm woken up by 'Ebony and Ivory' by Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney. It's a great song, but it's the sentiment thats important. We all share this wonderful world....lets live together in harmony'.

Keegan also added that almost the entire squad have voted to evict Jade Goody out of the Celebrity Big Brother house.

The Ryan Report Chapter 5 - Town close gap

Yesterdays postponement meant that Billingaham Town were able to claw back another 3 points on us with their victory at home to Bedlington. But with Whitley Bay having their FA Vase game postponed, it means that another of the chasing pack will have an even bigger backlog of fixtures which can only hinder them. The same applies to Benfield Bay Plastics, who will also fancy themselves to get amongst the championship contenders when it comes down to "squeaky bum time". My own personal view is that ourselves, Billingham Town, Whitley Bay and Consett will be the main challengers going into the final six weeks of the season. Consett have relied heavily on Michael Mackay in recent weeks, and the talk is that he could be off to Stockport County on trial. Fingers crossed that it goes well for him.

Yesterdays game being off, we were summoned to the Sports complex for training. The squad enjoyed a good hour of indoor five a side. Team spirit seemed good and the banter was flying around. That is of course until Steven Stewart stunned the lads by refusing to give new signing Chris Scott a lift home....despite it being on his way and having THREE spare seats in his car! The lads were appalled by Stewy' attitute and will discuss the possibility of shunning him at training on Wednesday night. His name in the programme for next weeks game is to be changed to Selfish Stewart.

A quick note on my team mate Jonny Butler, whose transfer request was turned down last week. He has responded in the right manner and has vowed to regain his place in the team. After training, Butler and Steve Capper stayed back and did an extra fifteen minutes on their own to keep sharp.

Riches: 'I'm not scared!'

Nissan goalkeeper Gary Riches has shrugged off rumours of the club looking to bring in another keeper. Reports in the early morning tabloids had linked the club with several stoppers as they look to strengthen the squad in all areas. Riches' older brother Marc has been forced to leave the club due to work commitments, leaving him the only custodian at the club. But when quizzed about potential new arrivals, Riches was fairly dismissive. 'To be honest, I'm not bothered who they bring in. It doesn't concern me. As long as I do the business on a Saturday, I'll keep my place. I don't buy into all that 'competition keeps you on your toes' bull**it. I just go out and do my best and hopefully that's good enough to help the side get a result.'

Nobody at Nissan was available for comment on stories linking them with out of favour Chelsea keeper Carlo Cudicini.

Lund delighted to be back

New signing Anthony Lund has revealed his relief at finally ending his Durham City nightmare. The left sided Lund had fallen out of favour at New Ferens Park after picking up a suspension through Sunday football. It led to a few weeks in the wilderness before Nissan manager Wilf Constantine managed to broker a deal to bring the wideman back to club he supported as a boy.
'I was close to tears when Wilf rang and told me that the deal was complete. He's been brilliant for my career....a father figure, and I'm looking to repay his faith by putting in the performances on the pitch. I couldn't wait to get away from Durham. It just isn't what it said it would be like in the brochure. I had a few nights where I cried myself to sleep because I was so unhappy and even considered retirement but thats all in the past now.'

Gaffer wields the axe as 2 players leave

Manager Willfe Constantine has told his players "Shape up or ship out" as he bids to rid the squad of complacency as the title challenge gathers pace. Earlier today Chris Feasy left the club to join South Shields and Adam Clough has moved to Bishop Auckland. Both players wanted first team football but couldnt force there way into the side on a regular basis so they have moved on in a bid for first team football. The gaffer said "I want to thank both players for all their hard work and dedication, i wish them all the best and will monitor their progress closely. I brought in two players last week so i needed to trim squad and both players were desperate for first team football. Todays events will let the rest of the team know that nobody is safe and in my eyes you are only as good as your last game". It is rumoured that the gaffer is unhappy at Johnny Butler using his media connections with the use of propaganda to question team selection recently and Butlers head could be next on the chopping block!

Constantine eager for action

MANAGER Wilf Constantine is desperate for tomorrow's fixture against Tow Law Town to go ahead at the Nissan Sports Complex.
Nissan's fixture last week was postponed but nearest challengers Billingham Town played and won.
Constantine said: "They are now only five points behind us at the top of the Arngrove Northern League First Division and they have a game in hand on us. It's disappointing to have been inactive but there was nothing we could do about it.
"I want to get back into action as soon as possible and put some more points on the board."
Jon Cullen and Gary Pearson have both recovered from injury and are added to a full-strength squad.

The Ryan Report Chapter 6 - Lead extended at the top

A comfortable 4-0 win over Tow Law was made all the more pleasing with the news that fellow contenders Billingham Town and Consett could only manage draws. This opens up a 7 point gap between ourselves and second placed Town. Consett however, are in a similar position to Whitley Bay and can close the gap right up if they win several games in hand. Hopefully, we can just continue to do what we are doing of late and keep picking points up and make it harder for the chasing pack to catch us.

It was nice to get on the scoresheet yesterday. Its been a few weeks! From a personal point of view I was disappointed with my first half performance. I wasn't strong enough and didn't keep hold of the ball up front which resulted in Tow Law putting us on the back foot for a while. But after a few words at half time from the Gaffer, I thought I did a job for the team and was pleased with my goal. I heard a few of the lads mention something about it being 'Solksjaer-like' but I don't take too much notice of things like that.

It seems that every week I am singling out a different team mate for special praise. This week is no different. Stephen Halliday was brilliant again yesterday. Tidy on the ball, strong in the tackle and always talking the younger lads through the game. Buddy has been quality all season and it was no coincidence that we lost away to Benfield when he was on the bench.

A quick word on two lads who have left Nissan this week. Adam Clough has gone to Bishop Auckland and Chris Feasey to South Shields. Both very good midfielders who weren't getting enough games at Nissan so Wilf has let them go and play football elsewhere. Although I think that the real reason Feasey has gone is because of the shorts he wore for training a fortnight ago. Absolute rascals.

Nissan FC boss Wilf Constantine today put a £1 million price tag on Gavin Cogden's head after hearing that Charlton Athletic had rejected a reported £18 million for their striker Darren Bent.
'What is the game coming to? It's bizarre...I mean, if Bent is worth that much, what price young Gavin? You'd have to be looking at a seven figure sum to prize the little fella away from us. Usually in our league a figure of £5,000 would be classed as astronomical but after hearing that Charlton won't accept £18 million for a bang average player like Bent, it puts things in a new light.
One in...One out

Nissan manager Wilf Constantine has once again been busy in the transfer market. He has brought in goalkeeper Craig Shields from rivals Durham City and allowed striker Neil Maddison to go the other way. The move is on a one month loan basis with a view to a permanent deal. The move should suit both players, as Shields is all but ready to resume his career after a badly broken leg suffered at the end of last season and Maddison has been in and out of the Nissan side of late.

Constantine is also looking at other areas of his squad that may need adding to. Nissanfc.co.uk understands that he is in talks with a player at the moment who's signing would certainly cause a stir throughout the league. More on that story as and when it reaches us.

Gaffer to rid dressing room unrest once and for all

Manager Willfe Constantine has made a statement to his players that he wants 11 captains on the field of play, not just one. This statement is a bid to rid the tension between ex-captain Stephen Walklate and current captain Justin Keegan. The captaincy has changed hands between both players on more than one occasion this season and resulted in a number of bust ups on and off the field. Walklate feels particularily hard done by as he is a part of a new breed that lets his feet do the talking and not shouting nonsense like "Cmon Nissan" and "lets play for pride". Keegan has different qualities like his organisational skills and his brut force so both have good cases for the job. Keegan loves the armband. Its rumoured that he wears it around Easington on a night out!!! Some of the punters in the Half Moon are sick of him.... all he does is walks round with his long sleeves pushed right up past his elbows calling himself 'Il Capitano'!!!

The gaffer is quick to heal the rift between both players so at tomorrows annual race night both players will arm wrestle for the right to be Nissan captain for the remainder of the season. Keegan is the slight favourite after his defeat of the hendon hardman earlier last year.

Nissan gun down title challengers Shildon

Nissan had an excellent 3-0 victory of third placed Shildon at the Nissan sports compex yesterday. Shildon started brightly getting the ball forward at all oppurtunities but Nissan weathered the early pressure and took control of the game. Justin Keegan opened the scoring with a deft back header into the top corner midway throught he first half. Shildon striker Adam Emson hit the Nissan post with a good solo effort and Gavin Cogdens lob also hit the post just before half time. Gavin Cogden was chopped down in the box early in the second half but the keeper pulled off a good save from the resulting penalty and smothered cogdens follow up. Cogden was not to be outdone as he fired home to make the game safe. Another foul on Cogden in the penalty area saw John Cullen take over penalty taking responsibilities and he cooly fired intot he bottom corner. Shildon had a header against the bar but Nissan could have extended there lead with Ben Ryan, Cogden and the impressive Stephen Halliday all denied by the visiting keeper.

This result may see the end of Shildons title challenge but they wont give up as they are strong side and justify there place as a top side.

The Ryan Report Chapter 7 - And then there were four!

It looks now as if ourselves, Whitley Bay, Consett and Billingham Town are the last remaining challengers for the league title.

Yesterday's defeat of Shildon has, in my opinion, put an end to their challenge for the title. However I still feel that they have the ability to cause some of the other top sides a few problems. Young Emson up front is a real handful and with a little bit of fine tuning, may get a chance in the pro game. Speaking of which, it's noticable how many Northern League lads are getting picked up or at least looked at from the pro clubs. Michael Mackay has apparantly impressed Darlington, as has Benfield's Lumsden. And their striker Brodie has landed an 18 month deal with York City. And today's News of the World has reported that West Brom and Derby are tracking Phil Bell of Whitley Bay. Good luck to all of them. It's always nice to see lads getting away to clubs.

Last night was Nissan's Race night. Despite sinking four red wines, I was on the lookout for some scandal to share in the report. The only thing of note was the manager's attempts at playing 'footsy' under the table with Neil Maddison's other half. One other thing that needs bringing to the fore.....Justin Keegan's smoking style. After studying it for a few minutes, John Cullen and I thought that he must have just started smoking last night. He looked as if he was being forced into it. Each drag was accompanied by a grimace of agonising dis-pleasure. When we asked him though, he told us he had been abusing his body with the filthy habit for 5 YEARS!!! Keegs....its not big and its not clever. If you don't enjoy it - Don't do it!!!

And finally a welcome to Craig Shields who has joined on loan from Durham City. Shieldsy is recovering from a broken leg and is ready to play agin after almost nine months out. His signing will boost the goalkeeping ranks back up to two after the departure of the Riches brothers, Marc and Gary. All the lads wish Marco and Gaz their best....Both top keepers and good lads to boot!

Manager Wilf Constantine has placed a sex ban on one of his players in a move which sure to upset both the player and his girlfriend.

Left winger Anthony Lund has been told that Friday night's are for pasta suppers and relaxing baths. The move came after Lund ran out of steam during a recent Saturday game against Tow Law Town. Constantine was visibly annoyed with Lund and hauled the youngster into his office immediately after the game. The meeting was supposed to be private but Lund confided in Alan Hoey as soon as the meeting had ended.
'Lundy has been told he isn't allowed to have sex the night before a game. He is gutted. Wilf told him that he should be preparing himself physically and mentally for every game during this crucial period for the club.' said Hoey.
The Ryan Report Chapter 8 - Putting the record straight.

Yesterday's defeat was a bitter pill to swallow. It gives all the other teams at the top of the league a boost and keeps us in their sights. A victory against Whitley Bay would have sent us well clear at the top, but the loss has pegged us back a touch. The game itself was a farce in poor conditions but it was the same for both teams and Whitley managed to put away the only two chances they had so on that basis they deserve the points.

The game had taken on extra signifigance for me on a personal level this week. As an ex player of Whitley Bay, I was looking forward to it .Its always nice to see former team mates and enjoy a bit of banter with them. However, after 'comments' were attributed to me on two internet forums early in the week, it was clear that I was not going to be popular with lads I had always got on well with. I can confirm that I did not, nor have I ever had a bad word to say about Brian Rowe or David Coulson. They are both good players and great lads. The 'comments' were made up to create friction and spice things up. That I can accept. But when the people responsible for the lies start making personal comments about me, I find that hard to take. Especially when I regarded one of them as a friend. I will not name those responsible because I have already made my feelings clear in person. The matter as far as I am concerned is closed.

Quick word on Michael Mackay. Delighted for him after his move to Hartlepool United. He was at Durham City with me last year and although he may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, he has undoubted ability. Good luck Mickey.

Stephenson : We must win!

Nissan defender Paul Stephenson has urged his team-mates to put Saturday's defeat to Whitley Bay behind them and get back on track at Billingham Synthonia on Wednesday night. Stephenson, who missed the weekend fixture with an ankle problem believes that the title will still end up at Nissan if the side can bounce back to form quickly.

'It's vital that we go to Synners and get a result. Everyone will be looking to see how we react to the defeat against Whitley Bay and it's up to us to show what we are made of. It'll be a hard game as Synners had a great win in the Vase on Saturday but we are top of the league for a reason and that is because we have been consistent over the last five months.'

Stephenson hopes to be available for the trip. 'I'm moving a bit easier than I was on Saturday so I'm in with a good chance of playing....if selected of course.'

The Ryan Report Chapter 9 - Free week

This week's installment of the 'The Report' is a little later than usual for no other reason than I had nothing really to discuss. No game on Saturday and a postponement in midweek has meant I was able to take a break from editorial duties. The only thing of note this week at the top of the table was the midweek draw between Whitley Bay and Tow Law Town, which came as a surprise to most. The week's big winners are probably Billingham Town as they won their only game and saw others around them drop points.

This weeks chapter is mainly about managers from the lower leagues. Who is the best? Who has achieved the most? Who can do it on shoe string? It could form an interesting debate, certainly amongst the older fans around the leagues who can no doubt remember managers from days gone by. I can only comment on those managers who I have come into contact over the last ten or so years and out of the hundreds (Joke - but seriously, there must be about fifteen) that I have played under, two stand out as being excellent and three or four as being awful. The best manager I have played for is without question Mattie Pearson. The guy is top quality. He knows the area, he knows the game and he gets results. It's a shame that work commitments have forced him to take a back seat from the game as he really should be at a top local club. The other one I consider to be up there is Jamie Pollock. The best motivator I have worked under. His experience in the pro game has stood him in good stead and I expect Spennymoor to go well again next season.
Obviously I am not going to name the guys who I did not rate, but I would like to mention Paul Bryson as being another who I was impressed with. He combined the role of player and manager and did a very good job.
Of the remaining handful that I've not played for, I would expect Paul Baker to be amongst most people's choice for the best manager in the north east along with the likes of Harry Dunn, Kenny Lindoe and Bobby Scaife.

TRIVIA TIME
If Sunderland did it in 1979, Villa did it in 1981... who did it in 1980?
Last week's answer was Vinny Jones

Northallerton Town Match Preview

The cancellation of games over the last few weeks has seen the team stutter along with 3 wins and 3 losses from the last 6 games. Tomorrow sees the visit of Northallerton Town who have steadily improved all season and no doubt it will be a difficult game. We were lucky to win 2-1 at their place early in the season as it was a last minute strike from Steven Walklate gave us an undeserved 3 points. They have beaten some good sides recently and will relish visiting the league leaders who are going through the first hiccup of the season. There are no easy games at this time of the season as Tow Law Town’s result at Whitley Bay on Tuesday showed. I disagree with the perception that a team fighting for the title playing a team in mid table with nothing to play for is going to be a formality. The team with something to play for have everything to lose and this pressure can affect performances. The team that have nothing to play for can relax and express themselves and a lot of these players will be trying to impress the top team’s managers and on lookers for a potential move next season.

The defeat at Billingham Synthonia was the first time in 28 games that Nissan failed to score a goal but chances were created and a penalty was also missed so I don’t think the manager will be too worried about this. What the manager will be worried about that Gavin Cogden starts a 3 match ban and that adds to long term injury victim David Tait. The manager has found it difficult to replace prolific scorer Tait as several targets decided against a move to the club. Also missing is defender Andy Reay who starts a 1 match ban and Ben Ryan will have a late fitness test on an ankle injury. It will be interesting to see who starts up front as Jimmy Farrell, new signing Kevin Devine and Alan Hoey will be looking for a chance to stake a claim. Stephen Stewart has been used up front recently to good affect and ads that bit of pace that is needed to stretch teams. Anthony Lund scored a hat trick in the county cup semi final on Sunday and he will be pressing for a return on the left hand side of midfield. Should be an interesting game as the title race gathers pace.

Nissan FC drew 2-2 at home to Northallerton Town today. Stephen Capper scored twice but Nissan couldnt see out the game as town pushed on with 2 goals in the last 20 minutes. Town deserved at least a draw and it remains to be seen how costly these dropped points may be.

Clarke : I can't wait to get started!

Nissan FC have landed top Northern League striker Jamie Clarke from Bishop Auckland. He put pen to paper on Tuesday afternoon and the loose ends were tied up this morning as the two clubs came to an agreement over the player, who had attracted interest from several top clubs in the North East.

Clarke decided to leave Bishop Auckland on Saturday after manager Brian Healy resigned from his position. From that moment on, it was simply a case of where he would end up. After discussions with several clubs, Clarke opted to join Nissan FC.

'I spoke to Wilf this week and he was very impressive. He sold that idea of Nissan FC to me and it didn't take me too long to realise that I wanted to join them. They are still in a strong position at the top of the table and hopefully I can add something to the squad. I'm playing well at the moment and will be looking to continue that form into the title run in.'

Clarke also revealed that his Sunday morning team mates John Cullen and Ben Ryan were instrumental in his decision to join the club. 'I spoke a few times to John and Ben and they both had only good things to say about the set-up. They still believe that the title is there for the taking if we can go on a good run and I'm hoping to be part of it.'

Cullen, assistant manager at Nissan was delighted with the capture. 'Jamie is a top striker at this level. Hopefully he can spark a bit of life into us and help pull us out of the bad run that we have hit.'.

Clarke goes into the Nissan squad for Saturday's away trip to Morpeth Town.

Cullen in the Den

John Cullen is at the centre of reports that he had visited the Dragon's Den in a bid to receive several body part replacements. 'Dragon's Den' is a popular TV programme where members of the general public appeal to five self made tycoons for an injection of cash to aide their businesses. Cullen was reported to have made the trip to the studios where it is filmed and asked them for £50,000 for two new hips, a left hamstring, a right quad and two new ankles. He told the panel that they would be 'doing the world of football a tremendous service' by allowing him to 'reproduce the kind of form' that earned him a move from Hartlepool United to Sheffield United ten years ago.

A spokesperson for the show said 'All he kept saying was that he was a 'great player'...and that he was better than Jimmy Ainsley or something. I think he might have been drinking because that's all he would say'.

All of the Dragon's dismissed Cullen immediately apart from Peter Jones, who seemed interested at first but after Cullen refused Jones's offer of the full £50,000 in exchange for just 5% of any future wage packets received through football, any possible deal was lost.

Morpeth Town Match Preview

Nissan FC travel to Craik Park tomorrow to face Morpeth Town. The Motormen are still top of the league despite only taking one point from the last three games and will be keen to put that winless run behind them. Morpeth lie in tenth place but if they win their games in hand could force their way into the top six.

Nissan include new signing Jamie Clarke in their squad for the first time and also have the returning Andy Reay (suspension) and Ben Ryan (ankle) available. They are still without Gavin Cogden and David Tait but Paul Stephenson will have a fitness test ahead of kick off. It is thought that John Cullen will return to the starting line up but it is not clear who will make way.

Manager Wilf Constantine is desperate to put a smiling on the faces of the travelling faithful. 'Those four lads follow us all over and it will be great to send them home happy!'.

Possible line up - Gilmore, Butler, Keegan, Pearson, Capper, Cullen, Halliday, Walklate, Stewart, Clarke, Devine. Subs from - Shields, Reay, Scott, Stephenson.P, Ryan, Stephenson.A, Lund, Hoey, Farrell

Young Gun Stephenson Captains County

Nissan FC would like to congratulate Andy Stephenson on being selected for the Durham county U'17's football squad. He captained the team against Hartlepool U'17's last Tuesday with Nissan manager Willfe Constantine watching in the crowd. Nissan manager Willfe Constantine beleives being involved with Nissan and having good players around him is definitely improving his game and he seems to be going from strength to strength.
Andy regularily lines out on a sunday for Penshaw and during the week for Howletch college. The gaffer feels Andy has a big future in the game if he keeps on working hard. This acheivement comes despite the bad influence of older brother Paul who lacks discipline and secretly feels he should be made captain.

Cullen in Racism denial

Nissan playmaker John Cullen has denied any wrong-doing following a dismissal last Sunday where it was alleged he made a racist comment to an opponent of ethnic origin.

Cullen, who has been a bit part player during the last month, was ordered from the field during Hetton Lyons CC's home match with local rivals Houghton Glendale. The referee overheard Cullen's minor dispute with Glendale midfielder Chico and issued a red card immediately. Several players were in the vicinity of the exchange and are adamant that no racist language was used. Chico himself has backed up these claims and has offered to attend any appeal that Cullen may make.

Cullen said 'I'm devastated that this has happened. I've got black friends and relatives. There is no way I would ever say anything offensive towards someone because of their creed or colour. Hopefully an appeal will clear my name.'

Defender in Animal Rights probe

Nissan centre half Paul Stephenson is at the centre of a probe involving animal rights group 'Fur-Friends UK'. The probe has come about after ex Nissan player Michael Canavan was overheard telling current Nissan keeper Craig Shields about Stephenson's favourite pastime.

It is alleged that Stephenson and his pals go 'ratting' on a regular basis. The unusual hobby is more popular in rural areas where people have nothing to do on an evening. Places such as Easington and Murton are hot spots for such behaviour. 'Ratting' is the unlawful and unlicensed slaughtering of rodents. Groups of young men gather and go hunting innocent rats before shooting them dead.

A spokesperson for Fur-Friends UK said 'As a top northern league footballer, this young man must set a good example to the youngsters all over the north east. This vicious and sadistic hobby of his has no place in modern society and we will be taking the matter further.'
News Alert - Stephenson guilty of Ratting

It has been confirmed tonight that Paul Stephenson has been charged with cruelty to vermin. The Nissan stopper had hoped to get away with any punishment after reports broke yesterday about his run ins with rodents, but was found to be guilty after his sister told a jury that Stephenson did take part in the vulgar activities.

She claimed that he used to leave the house with his trousers tucked into his socks as he is frightened of rats and was fearful that they may crawl up his leg.

Horden Match Preview

Horden CW, eight points
adrift of safety with two games in hand on the side immediately above them, face leaders Sunderland Nissan at the Nissan's Sports Complex and manager Gus Di Lella has been busy on the transfer front.
Former player Alan Martin has rejoined The Colliers with John Keegan, Jimmy Farrell, Keith Hutchinson and Alan Hoey other newcomers. Andy Davies, Chris Pearson, Craig Stephens and Darren Atkinson are all ruled out.

The title race is tight. Nissan are just two points ahead of Billingham Town, who have a game in hand. Whitley Bay are also in a strong position, four points off the top having played three games fewer than Nissan.
Nissan manager Wilf Constantine said: "We've had a good week and it's all to play for. Our nearest rivals have both lost which just goes to prove that anything can happen, particularly at this stage of the season when the pressure is on."
Nissan have Gavin Cogden back after missing three games. Jamie Clarke, recently signed from Bishop Auckland, is named together with Kevin Devine, who will line up against his former club.

Chairman in 'bribe' claim!

Nissan FC chairman Harry English could be investigated after claims that he has attempted to bribe Nissan's future opponents.

It has been claimed that English offered a brand new Nissan Pathfinder in exchange for a couple of clumsy tackles inside the penalty area to the players of a team that Nissan face in the next week. One of the players, who did not wish to be named, said 'Harry rang me the other day and told me that a penalty was equal to a pathfinder in his eyes and that I was not to look at this as a bribe, but a Japanese custom that has been in place for hundreds of years. He told me that the new Pathfinder was built on a high-strength, fully boxed, all-steel frame based on the full-size Nissan Armada SUV and that it included new exterior styling and a greatly refined interior, as well as newly available technology such as a revised Nissan Navigation System with 9.3-gigabyte Music Box hard drive.'

Constantine looks for United performance

Nissan boss Wilf Constantine has urged his side to go all out for victory tonight and has pointed towards Manchester United's awesome display in last night's Champions League clash with AS Roma as an inspiration for his team.

'They were on a different planet last night' said Constantine, who was present in the 74,000 crowd to oversee his summer targets Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. 'The way they took the game to the Italians was awesome. Those Ultravox lads in the away end didn't know what had hit them!'

Constantine then likened his squad to that of United's. 'We are so similar. When you look at Ferdinand and Brown, it's like watching the partnership of Stephenson and Keegan. Across the middle you can clearly see so much of Ronaldo and Giggs in Steven Stewart and Steven Halliday. Rooney is as close to Cogdon as you'll get. And when things aren't going well, I can throw on my very own supersub Ben Ryan who is just like the boy Solskjaer.'

Lundys Late Late Show!

Young gun Anthony Lund kept Nissans title hopes alive last night with the winning goal against Ashington 4 minutes into injury time. Lund has hit good form recently and topped it off with an excellent display and a much deserved winner for the home side. Nissan made hard wok of the victory but any win at this stage is important.

Weekend Preview

IT'S still all to play for with three clubs fighting it out for the Championship.
It appeared that Sunderland Nissan had missed their chance when they were unexpectedly defeated on Monday night but in another twist Whitley Bay lost two days later.
"We are still in with a shout and it is almost certain the destination of the title will not be decided until the final day," said manager Wilf Constantine ahead of tomorrow's difficult fixture with in-form Durham City at Nissan Sports Complex.
"If we win our last two matches then who knows. We are just a point behind Whitley Bay although their goals difference is three better than ours."
Constantine will have to get along without Gary Pearson and Stephen Halliday but the good news is that Justin Keegan returns.
UniBond League bound Durham City are ending the season with a flourish under recently appointed manager Lee Collings and they are up to fifth, in with a chance of finishing fourth top.

Whitley Bay will not find it easy against Dunston Federation. The two sides have each lost just six times but the Fed are the draw specialists and secretary Bill Montague reckons that their inability to finish off sides has cost them dearly.
"It has been a very competitive league and by our own very high standards we have disappointed but we aim to give the Bay a good game," said Montague.
Fed have team captain Michael Robson included after he made a successful comeback last week following a long lay off. Adam Scope is also included.

Weekend Title Showdown preview

IT'S A must-win situation for Sunderland Nissan when they line up against Billingham Synthonia at the Nissan Sports Complex tomorrow.
Success will see them crowned champions but nothing less than three points will be sufficient. Following Billingham Town's midweek victory, Nissan trail the newly-installed leaders by a couple of points but the Teessiders have completed their programme.
Whitley Bay are also in contention and although they are three points off the top they too can overtake Billingham on goals difference.

"The good thing is that we are now back in the driving seat," said manager Wilf Constantine who reports that his only injury doubt is Andy Reay.
"Only a couple of weeks ago Whitley Bay were favourites, but there have been several twists and turns and now we know that three points tomorrow will start the celebrations.
"It will not be easy but if we play like we did last Saturday we'll have a great chance."

Whitley Bay, only a point behind Nissan, face a difficult test at Durham City where their only absentee is Mark Taylor with cracked ribs.
"If you are a neutral, then it is a fantastic end to the season with three sides in with a chance. We can only concentrate on our match and hope that Nissan slip-up," said Bay official Peter Fox.
Durham City manager Lee Collins, who had guided his team to 10 wins and three draws before last Saturday's defeat at Nissan, adds Stephen Harrison and Richard Pitt to his squad.
He said: "Make no mistake about it, we want to finish on a high and will be going all out to defeat Whitley Bay in what should be a cracking game."

Johnny Butler Ends Nissan Love Affair

It has been confirmed that Johnny Butler has left Nissan FC after four successful years at the club.
Butler was part of the team that acheived promotion to division one two years ago and was also part of the nearly
team that came third in the league and runners up in the league cup final last season. Butler has followed
ex-Nissan assistant manager Lee Collins to Durham City for the coming season. Butler had this to say "Ive enjoyed
my time at Nissan and have a great relationship with the management, players and supporters of the club. After
four years at the club i felt it was time for a new challenge and i am looking forward to linking up with Lee
Collins at Durham City. I would like to thank everyone at Nissan FC for making me welcome and wish the club the
best of luck in the future." It was rumoured that Butler had off the field problems towards the end of the season
and this may have played a part in his decision but we thank Johnny for his service and look forward to meeting up
again next season.

Close season update - Ins and Outs!

With pre-season just a few weeks away, Nissan manager Wilf Constantine has been as busy as ever, trying feverishly to add players to last season's squad.

The big story of the summer is the transfer saga of Mattie Moffat. The player signed forms for Nissan in May after agreeing terms with Constantine. Since then the player has had a change of heart and decided that it was in his best interests to make a move to Consett. Nissan were not keen to keep a player who didn't want to be at the club and so have reluctantly agreed to let him go to Consett for a nominal fee. Suggestions that Nissan have done as well out of this deal as Manchester United did out of the John Obi Mikel transfer are way off the mark. The club wish Mattie Moffat all the best for the future.

Co-incidentally, Consett striker Andy Appleby has joined the Motormen and will provide competition for places up front and in the wide positions.

Those heading for the exit door are full backs Johnny Butler and Steve Capper and midfield general Buddy Halliday. Butler and Capper have re-joined former assistant manager Lee Collings at Durham City. Halliday has joined newly promoted Seaham Red Star. The club made offers to keep all three but in all cases, the players decided to make a fresh start elsewhere. The club thank them for their services over the last few seasons.

The club are hoping to announce one or two deals in the next few days and any official news will be posted on the website as soon as they are announced.

Clarke and Gilmore on the move

Nissan FC have today confirmed that Jamie Clarke and Paul Gilmore have left the club.

Clarke has moved to Durham City where he will link up with former Nissan team-mates John Butler and Stephen Capper. He arrived at the club for last season's title run in and his goals almost helped Nissan win the league. But he has failed to settle in the area and has jumped at the chance to join ambitious City.

Gilmore has moved to Darlington RA after a turbulent season for the stopper. He was dropped mid-way through the season only to twice regain his place towards the end of the campaign.

Manager Wilf Constantine has admitted that he has found it tough to bring in new players during the close season. 'Its been difficult. As soon as clubs hear Nissan's name, they add a zero to the asking price. We will not be held to ransom though and we will keep working behind the scenes to bring in one or two new faces because John Cullen is desperate for one'.

Nissan land top target!

Nissan FC today completed the signing of Leon Ryan from Durham City AFC.

After weeks of work behind the scenes and lots of negotiations between the clubs and the player, a deal was concluded this morning and Ryan put pen to paper. Nissan FC manager Wilf Constantine, who is on club business in Italy, had left the transfer in the hands of chairman Harry English and he will be delighted to learn that Ryan is finally a Nissan player. Constantine had expressed an interest in signing Ryan at the end of last season but it has taken almost two months to finally get the deal completed.

Ryan is delighted to have joined the club. 'I'm just glad to finally put pen to paper. Its been a difficult few weeks for me but thankfully I can now concentrate on football. I'm not interested in all the politics that has surrounded the move...thats for the clubs to sort out. I can't wait to get started. The squad is full of talent and hopefully we can go a step further than last year and deliver some silverware.'

'The prospect of lining up alongside Justin Keegan and Paul Stevenson was too good to turn down' said Ryan. 'I've watched Keegan from afar and his attitude and aggression are second to none. Stevo is like a Rolls Royce. His reading of a game is superb. If I get into the side, it'll be an good to have someone with quality alongside me.'

Constantine is hopeful of adding two more players to his squad before the start of the season and has left the names of his targets with his chairman to pursue.

Versatile Walklate boosts Constantine

Nissan FC manager Wilf Constantine has indicated that he will use experienced Steve Walklate in an un-accustomed left back role this year if his attempts to land a natural full back before the season starts fail.

Constantine is working on a number of targets in the left back area, after losing Stephen Capper to Championship favourites Durham City. So far his attemps have been thwarted and he is resigned to starting the campaign without a recognised left sided defender. But he isn't too concerned.

'I know that Walklate can operate in there for me. He did it last year and although he makes out that he hates it, deep down i think he enjoys the change. If I can't sign a left back he will have to play there. Its as simple as that.'

Opening fixture set for change

Nissan FC's opening game of the season away to Billingham Town looks set to be switched to Nissan as Billingham's new playing surface might not be ready for the start of the season.

It now looks likely that the game will be on the Friday night - 10th August - at Nissan with the kick off time 7.30pm. It is hoped that the fixture may attract a big crowd as two of last season's top three sides go head to head for the right to top the league for one night at least!

Stephenson: 'I'm not scared!'

Nissan FC central defender Paul Stephenson has issued a battle cry ahead of the new season, insisting that he is not worried about the arrival of Leon Ryan from Durham City.

It has been reported that manager Wilf Constantine will abandon plans to convert to a 3-5-2 system by using Stephenson in an unfamiliar right back role. He sees the Easington born defender as the weakest of his central defenders and will shift him across to the full back role to accomodate Ryan and club captain Justin Keegan.

Stephenson said 'I don't care who the boss brings in. I've proved I can mix it with the best of them and I'm not scared by a little competition. I want to play in the middle and will not be happy if that is not the case. I'm better then Keegs so why should I be moved? I should have won player of the year last year, but was overlooked!'

Ryan hopeful for return

Nissan wing wizard Ben Ryan is hopeful of a return to action in the next couple of weeks after stepping up his fitness trail yesterday.

Ryan has been plagued with injuries since his arrival at the club but has impressed everyone with his dedication to getting himself back in peak physical fitness. The latest setback was a groin injury that he picked up in pre season training.

'I was flying in training. To be fair, the lads couldn't get near me. I felt sorry for one or two of them because they aren't used to getting the runaround. But my groin was causing me some discomfort and I had to get it sorted out. I'm hopeful that I can get some games under my belt before the end of the month.'

Feed the Weeman and he will SCORE

After starting the game without any real purpose it was looking like the 11 nissan players on the pitch at Consett had their minds more on Ant and Decs Saturday night Takeaway than playing their usual flowing football from back to front.
Had Consett taken their early chances it could have taken Manager Wilf Constantine's blood pressure into danerous terrority, however he was given a second chance in life, not by god but his favourite Gavin Cogdon.
It was Cogdon who sparked Nissan into life with a toe poke, mirrowing the famous Romario of Brasil which gave Nissan a life line, going into the dressing room 2-1 down the Motormen were more than confident the game could be changed.
The blue and black stripes then dominated the second half and some strong tackling next to the dugouts from Pearson and again Pearson meant the fight back was on.
It was a day when neutrals were to stand and applause as Cogdon made mince meat of the Consett defence to complete his hatrick, more impressively though a perfect hatrick, right, left and suprise suprise a glancing header.
Poor referring lead to a 9 minutes of injury time being added, leading to a sickening equaliser which was probably the fair result.
Consett and Nissan will both take heart from the game but with 7 goals in 4 games for Cogdon it looks like the Artist formally known as Titch has found his shooting boots.

11 Captains at Nissan

Captain Justin Keegan was greatly offended with comments about his captaincy reign by Steven Walklate his reply was to scream out........

"there should be 11 captains on the pitch."

After much laughter and rolling around, some truth was found in the matter which has lead to Wilf Constantine declaring he wants 11 captains on the pitch from now on.
Nissan this season have been boosted by the promotion of Gary Pearson to a Coaching/Management role and have also been boosted by the signing of Leon Ryan who both have Captains qualities. Add that to Justin Keegan and Steven Walklate's capabilities Nissan may well be close to having 11 captains on the pitch.

Asked about this today, Wilf commented with his pants tied firmly....
"11 captains i want and that means anyone can lead my team out. However i want commitment to the role and dedication, Justin was the first to put pen to paper in the summer and that was good enough for me. I will also add however that it can be changed and WILL BE if any unrest in the camp begins."

Kevin didn't feel he had been given a chance at Nissan so was looking at other opportunities and Dunston was to big a chance to turn down. He also added that he would save money as he'll no longer be Chris Scott's taxi man.
Craig Shield's and Brownie needed a fresh challenge after not figuring in the Motormen's previous four fixtures.

The Only Way is Up

Nissan have been boosted by the news of a return to first team football of Andrew Reay and John Cullen.
Wilf Constantine now has a selection headache on Saturday mirrowing that of England Manager Steve McClaren.
Both players made a return to training this week and looked sharp which is a major boost to Nissan as only Andrew has featured in the early games before breaking a small bone in his foot early season and John has not featured due to fitness problems.
Wilf Constantine has declared it like two new signing, however has stated Andy is a game or two away from playing and John could feature on the bench on Saturday.
He added that John's dedication is again a major plus as the ex pro of 30+ years old has been seen in the Shiney Row area of Sunderland on a peddle bike (let me add without stabilisers) to re-gain his fitness after calls from his team-mates that he was finished.

So with Andrew Reay and Ben Ryan missing for Saturdays game, Nissan's only other doubt is Paul Hodgson who will have a fitness test before the game. Nissan also have the opportunity of fielding recent signing Paul Taylor.
Nissan will go into the game with some confidence after defeating champions Whitley Bay last week.

Cogdon Injured

Manager Wilf Constantine was not happy to here the news of the leagues top scorer injured during Sunday League Football.
Gavin was brought off in the first 10minutes on sunday which looks like a ankle injury however it doesn't look to bad.
Wilf added "Gavin is suspended next week for three games which means his missing now for 3 weeks because of this injury, this is not ideal because unless he keeps himself right, its like starting pre-season again."
Wilf stated that Gavin has had a fitness plan drawn up which will include Active Recovery/Rest which will consist of some swimming and low impact activities for the first week. His also got a Strength and Conditioning plan drawn up consisting of split routines throughout the following 2 weeks, along with his diet he should be back ready in no time. The exercise consultant said that Gavin will be working towards OBLA (onset of blood lactate) before his back playing which will prepare him properly and added to that some fartlek (speed play) training to mirror the way the game is played.
This will also give the new boys a chance to stake their claim for a place in the side.

Gretna Eye Cogdon

It has been heavily rumoured that Gretna are keen on Nissan's top scorer Gavin Cogdon after former Carlisle manager Mick Wadsworth watched Cogdon in action at Nissan’s 2-2 draw at Dunston.
However no approach has been made for the Northern Leagues current top scorer with 12 goals and with the start of his 3 game suspension this weekend it will be hard for them to see what more he has to offer.
Nissan will also miss Stewart Dixon and Chris Scott who were also sent off in the F.A VAse tie at Durham City.
With the three suspensions Manager Wilf Costantine feels he still has a strong squad of players to select from for the tie against local Northern League opposition Seaham RS.

Update from the Car plant

Following yesterday's victory over West Allotment Celtic, manager Wilf Constantine has challenged his side to go on a run and break into the chasing pack at the top of the league. 'We need to keep up the winning streak and get involved at the top of the table. Put pressure on teams like Whitley Bay did to us last year and see how they respond.'
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Gavin Cogdon came through the final 15 minutes of yesterday's match and even had time to grab a goal. The tiny striker found the top corner with a toe poke from 6 yards out after good work from his team mates.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Paul Taylor and Stuart Dixon have both left the club for pastures new. Taylor has gone to Jarrow Roofing and Dixon to Northallerton Town. The club wishes both players well for the future.
